One of the most famous quality pioneers of the wine region of Priorat is José Luis Pérez. He founded the Mas Martinet winery and also launched Cims de Porrera in 1996. The Catalan name translates as “the peaks of Porrera,” which can be taken quite literally. For the project, very old vineyards at high altitudes above the town of Porrera were planted. The vines of the indigenous Cariñena and Garnacha varieties are up to 100 years old and produce only the lowest yields on the notorious slate soils of the Priorat.
