The La Rioja Alta S.A. Gran Reserva 890 Selección Especial is the flagship wine of La Rioja Alta S.A. The 2010 is one of the most heralded vintages of recent times and the first Gran Reserva 890 vintage that has been made after the legendary 2005 vintage.
VINIFICATION
It combines Tempranillo (95%), Graciano (3%) and Mazuelo (2%) grapes from the estates own vineyards. The Tempranillo and Mazuelo grapes were blended in the vineyard and fermented together whilst the Graciano was handled separately. After letting the wine stabilise for the winter, they selected the best batches which were then left to age for six years in used American oak barrels with ten manual rackings. To preserve its aromas the wine was not filtered before bottling.
