Pago de Valtarreña is a red wine from the Ribera del Duero region produced by the Carmelo Rodero winery. At first Carmelo Rodero continued his family tradition and began looking after his families vineyards for a few years, but later decided to opt out of this, and in 1990 started his own career.
VINIFICATION
Pago de Valtarreña is made using Tinta del Pais (100%) grapes taken from vineyards owned by the Valtarreña family. The vineyards are around 45-55 years old on calcareous clay soils and french sands. The grapes are harvested by hand in 12kg boxes. Fermentation is then carried out in stainless steel tanks, with maceration in French oak barrels. Pago de Valtarreña is then aged for 24 months in 225 litre French oak barrels with a selected grain that are on average 18 months old.
