The producer of Pura Vida, Cellers Underground, is a joint project of two distinguished winemakers: Richard Sanz (from Sitios de Bodega and Mencía D2) and Joan Soler (from Abadal and LaFou). This delicious white wine is made from a blend dominated by Chardonnay, and completed with a portion of Macabeo. Both are grown in plots with shallow limestone soils under a continental climate. This white wine slowly opens to notes of ripe white fruit, withered flowers and citrus. The nose keeps growing and finally blooms displaying aromas of dry apricot and even some touches of lavender.
VINIFICATION
Once in the cellar, the grapes were kept chilled for 24 hours. Then they were cold-soaked for 4 hours and fermented with their lees. After that, Pura Vida was blended and aged on its lees for over a period of 8 months. Before finishing the process, 20% of this wine from Costers del Segre was aged for 3 months in French oak barrels. Then the different wines were all put together and aged for some time in tanks to assemble them. Finally, this white wine from Costers del Segre was bottled.
TASTING NOTE
The wine shows a nice balance between a bold, grassy structure and an enlivening acidity that makes it supple and light. Enjoy flavours of white fruit, citrus and Mediterranean herbs. This blend of Chardonnay & Macabeo has a long, smooth finish with woodland and balsamic remembrances.
