Robert Parker gives it 92 points – no wonder: MencÃa is the insider tip among Spain’s red grape varieties, and the grapes for this masterpiece come from very old, high-altitude vineyards. This winery owns over seven hectares of vineyards on hillsides around the municipality of Valtuille, between 400 and 600 meters above sea level.
VINIFICATION
The entry-level red 2022 Versos de Valtuille is a young wine that ages in 7,500-liter oak vats. 40,000 bottles produced.
TASTING NOTE
It’s a young, fruit-driven and unoaked wine. It has depth and complexity and is very harmonious, with contained ripeness. It’s juicy and balanced, young and tasty, with very fine tannins, round and elegant.
FOOD PAIRING
Pairs well with grilled octopus, Iberian pork tenderloin, charcuterie, aged Manchego cheese, wild mushrooms, and dark chocolate-covered cherries or tarts. The wine’s savory, complex, and elegant profile makes it harmonious with dishes featuring smoked paprika, roasted red peppers, rosemary, and even a touch of quince paste.
