Although the history of winemaking in Tenerife with its volcanic soils goes back a long time, the small, family-run winery was founded only in 2006. The foundation is like the ascent of a throne – almost from a standing start, the winery has made it to the top and today, just a few vintages later, is considered THE winery of the island. On just 9ha, a treasure of numerous native, ancient vines is cultivated here with their hands. Also in the cellar the principle applies: nature first!
VINIFICATION
Produced by Suertes del Marqués, a winery based in Valle de la Orotava (Tenerife), Suertes del Marqués Vidonia is a superb Spanish white wine made solely from Listán Blanco (also known as Palomino). This varietal white wine from Tenerife is produced from 3 different plots of ungrafted, over 100-year-old vines located between 350 and 520 metres of altitude, in an area composed of volcanic soils. The grapes were picked by hand and selected on site. Selected again on arriving at the cellar, they were subsequently destemmed and gently pressed. Only the free-run juice was used to craft Suertes del Marqués Vidonia 2019. The wine fermented in French oak barrels with indigenous yeasts, after which it was aged on lees for 10 months.
